Southern Komfort Management is pleased to give you information about our Village. In a nut shell, Southern Komfort is a 48 year old sport fishing, and camping village. Our 100 acres sits on the west bank of Kentucky Lake, nine miles south of Kentucky Dam.
Our portion of Kentucky Lake was formed when the Tennessee River was damed with the Kentucky Dam. The 184 mile pool within this portion of the 1,200 mile waterway is two miles wide at our location. The National Wilderness Area known as the L.B.L. (Land Between the Lakes) is across the lake from us. This area is rugged, and has some great natural-sand beaches where you can go skinny dipping and not get caught. It also has some very interesting wildlife.
It is adventurous to explore the L.B.L. but best to keep the lake in sight and to enter the area by boat. You could spend a lot of time trying to find your way if you got too adventurous. While there have been sightings of ďBig FootĒ, he has not been known to give directions.
Now back to us: If you are a camper, we can put you fairly close to the water in the early spring. When the season heats up, mid June or so, the openings get farther away from the waters edge. The farthest you will be from the water, though, should not exceed seventy or eighty yards.
If you are a cabin person, we have them. We are not the Hilton, but these 35 year old block cabins are clean, and equipped with linens, full kitchens, and are air conditioned. And yes Mom, we even have flush toilets, showers with hot water, and cable T.V.
Our restaurant is floating at the marina which provides a great view while eating. There is also a designated swimming area. We abound in quiet, especially after dark and, clouds considered, our sky is full of stars even in August when the smog is enough to choke anyone left in the city. If, after a few days, you have slowed to the pace we feature and donít want to go back to the grind, we give notes excusing you from the rat-race just a little longer. And if you really canít let go, we have wooded building lots or mobile home lots for sale or lease. And, of course, the campground is available all year.
Fishing off the pier and docks is permitted, day and night -- great if itís raining or the wind is up. The lake is so clean even the large fish may be eaten.
In summary, if you are on a budget or you just want a quiet location on the lake where the fishing is good and the hand holding and strolling better, we are your destination spot. We are the place where you can rest, fish, boat, stroll and have some money left over going home.
